Clarity Transforms Home Phone Into Peace of Mind Platform for Caregivers, Ending Isolation & Enhancing Well-Being of Older Seniors

CHATTANOOGA, TN–(Marketwired – Sep 16, 2015) – Millions across the U.S. caring for aging family members will never see the home phone the same way again — a breakthrough has arrived that transforms how older seniors connect with and are cared for by their loved ones. Clarity, a division of Plantronics (NYSE: PLT), today launched ClarityLife(TM) — an innovative peace of mind platform delivered through Clarity’s Ensemble home phone.

Designed primarily for older seniors living alone, ClarityLife keeps family members and caregivers up-to-date with their older loves one’s activities through a series of social and wellness features including check-ins, medication and appointment notifications, compliance monitoring, and the ability to share social messages, photos and videos that keep the senior engaged.

“ClarityLife offers a simple way to make sure the older senior in your life is okay,” said Jamie van den Bergh, president of Clarity. “Through ClarityLife, we are easing the anxieties caregivers face by creating a simple, smart connection through the home phone — a device seniors are comfortable using. It lets you welcome older loved ones who aren’t part of your family’s online social networks into your digital world. Our goal is to help seniors and loved ones share more, worry less and provide peace of mind to everyone in the family.”

The Ensemble home phone with ClarityLife can be purchased at www.clarityproducts.com for $299.95. The monthly service starts at $19.99 per month.

How ClarityLife works

ClarityLife is a service available on the Ensemble(R) home amplified phone. The senior user has access to the platform through Ensemble’s tablet display, offering a variety of intelligent features designed to keep older seniors better connected with caregivers and loved ones.

Meanwhile, invited friends, family and caregivers can log into a secure web portal to remotely configure, schedule and monitor compliance with medications, treatments, and important appointments. The ClarityLife service alerts caregivers if anything is out of the ordinary. For example, seniors can “Check-In” on the phone every day to let family members know they are up and moving. Caregivers will automatically receive an alert on their smartphone, tablet or PC if the “Check-In” is missed.

Recognizing that medication compliance is critical to leading an independent life, caregivers can set medication reminders to appear on the ClarityLife screen. Should the senior forget to take a medication or test their glucose, for example, ClarityLife will automatically alert the caregiver. Similarly, ClarityLife lets loved ones set other important reminders for seniors, such as doctor’s appointments, a grandchild’s birthday or an upcoming visit from a friend.

“Did he take his blood pressure medicine? How was the doctor visit? These are the concerns that many with aging family members have on a daily basis,” said van den Bergh. “ClarityLife calms these worries by transforming the home phone — a device seniors have used throughout their entire lives — into a centralized hub of communication for caregivers.”

Welcoming older seniors into the modern family

While families today to share text messages or photos, many older seniors are completely isolated if they are reluctant to adopt new computer technology. ClarityLife changes this by allowing family members to share moments with their older loved ones on the senior’s home phone. For instance, kids or grandkids can send photos to ClarityLife, which then automatically appear on Ensemble’s touchscreen display, ultimately turning the home phone into a digital picture frame. Personal videos can also be uploaded by caregivers or loved ones through ClarityLife’s secure online web portal or iOS app.

Family members can send emails or text messages directly to ClarityLife which comes with an email account and unlimited text messaging. Unlike computers or tablets, seniors are notified immediately without having to login or launch apps and the messages can be seen in large easy-to-read text. The senior can then reply or text new messages to family members using the on-screen keyboard.

“Many older seniors don’t use social media or text with family members. They don’t have to miss out on those quintessential family moments any longer,” continued van den Bergh. “ClarityLife allows you to welcome them into your family’s online social circle without the senior having to learn a new technology. Through the home phone, they can now receive that hilarious video from their granddaughter or that photo of their grandson’s graduation.”

ClarityLife is managed remotely by family and caregivers from any computer, tablet or smartphone. It features a sophisticated alert system that can be adjusted or tailored for specific family members, caregivers or home care workers. ClarityLife’s dashboard allows loved ones to non-intrusively monitor the senior’s activities of daily living (ADLs) and be aware should routines change.

Ensemble also amplifies incoming voice so users can clearly hear and understand the conversation. It features a patented digital sound processing technology that functions like a hearing aid to make soft sounds audible and keep loud sounds in a comfortable range. You can adjust the tone or amplification settings on the phone or remotely using the ClarityLife web portal to customize Ensemble to their unique degree of hearing loss. Ensemble is also equipped with an answering machine as well as a speakerphone that makes for easy hands-free conversations.
