Finalists Announced for Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit Business Competition

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (June 21, 2013) – Organizers of the 10th annual Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit today announced five finalists for the prestigious Boomer Business Plan Competition. A call for entries was issued earlier this year and many high quality business plans were received. The 2013 finalists for the Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit Business Competition are:

ChemoPatch

Engineering an innovative, easy-to-use patch platform that provides automated drug delivery at a low cost for cancer chemotherapy.

OpenPlacement

OpenPlacement brings visibility to care transition, offering tools and real-time vacancy information to match patients, family members, and care professionals with appropriate care providers.

Pristine Solutions

Pristine is building a platform that conveys product integrity and redefines product discovery for major wineries by producing bottle specific smart tags that detect exposure to damaging temperatures and counterfeiting. The tags also empower winemakers to distinguish their wine from competing brands by enabling them to engage with consumers on their smartphones at the point of purchase, leading to significant revenue growth.

QMedic

QMedic’s smart medical alert device passively monitors physical activity, sleep, and falls 24 hours/day.  By sending timely alerts to remote caregivers, QMedic enables users to proactively manage loved one’s safety and wellness in the home.

Resido Medical

Millions of Medicare patients with Essential Tremor suffer from uncontrollable shaking and struggle with daily tasks from drinking a glass of water to writing a check. Resido Medical has developed a novel therapy to reduce tremors without the high side effects of ineffective drugs or the risks of invasive awake brain surgery.

The 2013 Boomer Business Plan Competition seeks to generate the best ideas about the boomer, senior and caregiver marketplace. The competition taps into the business expertise and creativity of entrepreneurs around the globe. The five finalists will present their boomer business plans to a panel of judges comprised of leaders in the field of aging and venture capital communities.

“Since its start in 2004, the business plan competition has fostered a cutting edge community to explore, share, and design products and services that will dominate the boomer market in years to come,” said Mary Furlong, the Summit’s producer. “It’s wonderful that as always, past Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit competitors and winners will donate the prize money to seed the next big idea.”

This year’s competition will be moderated by Jeff Maltz, CEO and founder of SilverRide. Judges include: Somesh Dash, principal, Institutional Venture Partners; Laura Deming, VC, Longevity Fund; Jody Holtzman, senior vice president, thought leadership, AARP; Tom Rodgers, managing director of strategic investments, Cambia Health; Jeff Shoemate, vice president, innovative and business development, UnitedHealthcare; Gavin Teo, investment professional, Comcast Ventures; and Steve Wittman, director of strategic venture, Linkage.
