Has the 'Voice First' interface trend gone mainstream -- and can it benefit seniors?  Some think so. What has initially been driven by Apple platform Siri and the Amazon Echo – and now with Google Home -- is about to become mainstream (or as it is described, 'Voice First’) as the primary way we interact with technology.  There is even a possibility soon that both the Echo and Google Home devices could be utilized for voice calling.  Here are seven examples of 'Voice First' approaches and experiments for seniors. Sensely raises $8M for AI-powered virtual nurse app

San Francisco-based Sense.ly, which makes a virtual nurse assistant available through an app, announced it has raised $8 million in Series B funding in a round led by Chengwei Capital. Additional contributions came from Fenox Venture Capital, Bioved Ventures, the Mayo Clinic and the Stanford StarX fund. This brings the company’s total funding to date to at least $11.5 million.

Tech announcements spew forth, fast and furiously – but most do not help older adults.  Stay tuned and hopeful if you can, to the hundreds of announcements that will pour forth in the coming weeks from CES 2017 – hopefully a number of them focused on or at least interested in the care and/or services related to an aging population – and yes, according to the CDC, if one lives to age 65, life expectancy is unchanged.
