BETHLEHEM, Pa. — SafeHome AI (safehome-ai.com), a consumer web application that turns smartphone photos into a clinically informed home safety assessment, became publicly available on July 25, 2026. The tool was built by Justin Strause, PT, DPT, a Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) with 13 years of experience across outpatient, hospital, skilled nursing, and long-term care settings.
Users photograph the rooms of a home, answer a brief questionnaire about health and mobility, and receive a prioritized fall-risk report within minutes - findings ranked by severity, specific recommended fixes with product suggestions and cost estimates, a home safety score, and a "start here" list of top priorities. Reports can be run by older adults themselves or by family members assessing a parent's home from photos.
"In 13 years as a PT, I learned that what happens outside the clinic often matters more than what happens in it," said Strause. "The home is where our clients spend most of their lives, and it's the one place a clinician almost never sees. That gap is where falls happen. I built SafeHome AI to bring the same clinical eye I use with my patients into any home that needs it - for the price of a copay instead of a consultation."
According to the CDC, falls remain the leading cause of injury among adults 65 and older, and most home hazard assessments today require an in-person visit by an OT, PT, or CAPS-certified contractor. SafeHome AI is positioned as a first step, not a replacement: reports flag when an in-person professional evaluation is warranted and are designed to make that follow-up conversation concrete.
Privacy is a deliberate design constraint: uploaded photos are automatically deleted within 30 minutes of analysis, and health information provided in the questionnaire is never stored or shared.
A free assessment covering two rooms is available with no signup required. The complete assessment - up to eight rooms with a downloadable and emailed PDF report - is a one-time $19.99. A sample report is available at safehome-ai.com.
Clinicians, care managers, senior living operators, and other organizations interested in using SafeHome AI with the families they serve are invited to reach out directly.
