TALLINN, Estonia, August 18, 2026. Sugar Sense, a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) companion app built by a small independent team led by a founder who has lived with type 1 diabetes for more than 12 years, now puts real-time glucose readings on more screens than any diabetes app its team knows of, including the Amazon Echo Show in the kitchen and the phone of an adult child living in another city.
Sugar Sense connects to FreeStyle Libre and Dexcom sensors, and also works with Nightscout, the open-source project in whose community app list it appears. One account shows readings and alerts on iPhone, Android, Apple Watch, a web dashboard, the Windows system tray, the Mac menu bar, a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and Amazon Alexa. An older adult can simply say "Alexa, ask Sugar Sense what's my glucose" and an Echo Show answers with a color-coded card and a three-hour graph, no phone required.
For families, the Care Circle feature lets adult children and partners follow a loved one's readings and alerts from their own devices, wherever they live. Urgent alerts can break through a silenced phone, so a night-time low does not go unnoticed.
"After more than 12 years with type 1 diabetes, I know the hardest part is not the numbers, it is the worry of the people who love you," said Irakli Kurtanidze, Founder of Sugar Sense. "We built Sugar Sense so that worry has somewhere to look. The number is simply there, on whatever screen is already in front of you."
The safety net is free forever: glucose monitoring, all alerts and family following are never paywalled. An optional Premium subscription adds advanced features. The app is available in six languages and never suggests insulin doses, by principle.
Sugar Sense is available for download on the App Store, Google Play and at https://sugarsense.io/download. More information at https://sugarsense.io.
