WILMINGTON, Del. September 2026. Olkano (olkano.com), a daily check-in app for people who live alone, today opened its US Community Partner Program. Organizations that run daily wellness-check or telephone reassurance programs, including sheriff's office "Are You OK" programs, Area Agencies on Aging, fire department senior-check services and community nonprofits, can sponsor the people in their community to receive Olkano Plus free, permanently. The program is open to organizations that join during 2026.
Olkano works with a single daily tap. The user checks in at a time they choose, and if they miss the check-in, the trusted contacts they selected receive an alert. There is no location tracking, no camera, no sensors and nothing to wear. Trusted contacts do not need to install the app.
Many community check-in programs still depend on staff or volunteers dialing every enrollee each morning, or pay per-user vendor fees that force enrollment caps. The Community Partner Program is designed to add capacity without adding workload: the sponsoring organization tells its community about the offer and sends Olkano the names of the people it sponsors. Participants create a free account, which Olkano upgrades to Plus. The organization stays entirely out of the alert chain; alerts go only to the family members and friends each user chooses. Olkano is a check-in and notification service, not an emergency service, and does not replace 911 or any service a person currently uses. Sponsored users keep Olkano Plus free permanently, and Olkano's free tier remains available to everyone.
"My mother lives alone in Belgium and was worried that if something happened to her, nobody would know for days," said Daniel Piret, founder of Olkano. "I built Olkano for her, and community wellness-check programs exist because so many people share that worry. They are run by dedicated teams with limited budgets, and we would rather give them the service than watch them cap enrollment. This is also just the first step: we are working toward a community of vetted volunteer trusted contacts for people who have no family nearby, so that checking in becomes a connection to a real neighbor, not only a signal."
Olkano is available on iOS and Android in English and Spanish, free with one trusted contact, with a Plus tier at $4.99 per month that adds unlimited trusted contacts, interval check-ins and scheduling exceptions. A family member can also set up and fund an account for someone else at https://portal.olkano.com/sponsor.
