Free Daily Check-In Planner Lets People Who Live Alone Decide Who Acts When a Check-In Is Missed

Solo and Sure offers a free daily check-in planner at soloandsure.com/tools/daily-check-in/. It builds a daily check-in from friends, neighbors, an app or a call program, and sets out who acts, and when, after a missed check-in. It covers the United States and Canada.

What it does and who it is for

The planner covers what happens after a missed check-in: who notices, who comes to the door, how they get in, and when to ask the police for a wellness check. It is for people who live alone and have no obvious person to call, including people with no kids or family nearby.

How it works

The planner runs in the browser in 17 steps. A user picks who checks on them each day (a friend or neighbor, a free daily call program, or a paid check-in app or service) and how (a text, a call, a tap in an app, or a visit). They set a time window whose end is the deadline, and how long without an answer counts as missed. Then they name who comes to the door and how that person gets in (a key, a lockbox or door code, or building staff), plus a backup for days the first person is away. Optional steps cover pets and what responders should know, such as a door that sticks.

The result is a PDF with a fridge summary and a one-page plan for each person in it. Call programs differ by state and province, so the plan names local examples where we found them. Every question is optional, and anything skipped prints as a line to fill in by hand.

"A check-in is only as good as what happens when it's missed," said the Solo and Sure team. "The planner puts that part in writing."

The planner is free, needs no account, and nothing a user types leaves their device. It is a plan, not an emergency service: anyone who thinks someone is in danger should call 911.
