IDEAL LIFE Introduces Breakthrough Technology in Medication Adherence

TORONTO - April 29, 2011 - Responsible for 89,000 premature deaths and $100 billion in avoidable hospitalizations annually1, medication non-adherence is one of healthcare's most serious and costly challenges. Offering consumers, providers, family members and the healthcare community a real solution to this serious problem, IDEAL LIFE Inc., the ISO-certified industry leader in remote health management solutions, introduces a wireless medication management tool as the latest addition to its revolutionary medical system.

This turnkey, cost-effective, wireless pill dispenser, powered by MedMinder's proprietary technology, improves medication adherence and allows patients to maintain their independence, while providing caregivers with ongoing, real-time status and activity reports. MedMinder is a validated, patented technology shown to achieve 92 percent medication adherence compared to significantly lower rates with other programs.

"In the last two years we have repeatedly heard from our customers about the challenges they face in adhering to their oftentimes complex medication regimens," said IDEAL LIFE President Jason Goldberg. "IDEAL LIFE is committed to keeping pace with the market evolution and having the best offering to address customer needs. MedMinder's technology, like all IDEAL LIFE devices, is simple and easy to use. This new product introduction significantly enhances our product portfolio and enables us to provide an even more complete health and wellness solution for our customers."

Groundbreaking Technology in a Simple, Familiar Package

The MedMinder device looks like a standard plastic pill box and features up to four compartments per day for one week's worth of medication (28 total compartments), so users feel comfortable using it. Users do not need a phone line or Internet connection to use the device, as it uses embedded technology to connect directly to the IDEAL LIFE secure website portal to assist with timely and appropriate healthcare alerts or decisions. The device has no hard-to-decipher digital read-outs, intimidating buttons or a need for programming, making it easy to use for those patients that may be resistant to new technology.

Just Plug it in for Wireless, Two-Way Communication

Installation is as simple as plugging the power chord into an electrical outlet. While Internet access is not essential for the user, they, or their caregiver, can use the Internet to program the compartments' access schedule remotely. Caregivers can also receive notifications of the user's dosage activities as well as weekly reports summarizing their activities securely via the Internet.

Users are prompted to take medications, or to refill compartments, through a series of optional, pre-programmed visual and/or auditory alerts. Users then simply take the medication at the appropriate time throughout the day. If medication is not taken at the appropriate time, a light in the corresponding compartment will begin flashing. If the medication is still not removed, other alerts, such as beeps, phone calls, emails or text messages can also be initiated.

Easy to Fill

Once medication has been taken over the course of one week, a refill can be achieved manually by lifting all 28 compartments and placing pills in the appropriate compartments, or through a pre-filled tray provided by a pharmacist or caregiver.

"IDEAL LIFE is a true leader in the telehealth market, and we are thrilled that they will offer the MedMinder wireless pill dispenser as part of their broader health and wellness solution for consumers," said MedMinder founder and CEO Eran Shavelsky. "The partnership has been an ideal fit, as we share the common objective of providing simple, easy-to-use, consumer-inspired products that collect data and allow individuals to better manage their own care."

The IDEAL LIFE system was created for health-conscious individuals, as well as those managing chronic conditions such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, asthma and obesity. The IDEAL LIFE system is FDA-cleared and HIPAA-compliant.

IDEAL LIFE's digital, two-way and interactive technology streamlines the patient-doctor relationship by allowing individuals to better manage their own care through education and self-management, involving the physician when appropriate. This saves needless trips to the physician's office or hospital while allowing physicians to efficiently manage more patients, saving the physician precious time.
