Need to Save on Drug Costs? Forget to Take Your Medications? We have an app for that.
National non-profit offers two new smartphone apps to help consumers save money and stay healthy
Two new smartphone apps are now available to help consumers save money on the cost of prescription drugs and to offer a daily reminder to stay current on their medications.
Consumers can now save up to 80% on prescription drug costs with their smartphone. The free NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card App is all that’s needed to save on prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines and medical supplies and pet prescription drugs you purchase at a pharmacy.
And once you have your medicines, NeedyMeds Alert provides a simple solution to remembering to take your medicine
Every month, the NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card saves people over $1.5 million dollars. The average savings on any given prescription is about 50% or $35 per prescription. With the new NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card App consumers have information on how and where to save right on their smartphone.
Anyone can use the NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card App regardless of income, residency status, insurance coverage or age. Just show the card image to the pharmacist to find out what the savings will be.
New to this version is a Pharmacy Finder that includes the over 70,000 pharmacies that accept the card. Simply enter your ZIP code to find all of the pharmacies in your neighborhood that accept the card.
"One difference that distinguishes the NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card from many other cards is that no personal information is gathered about our users," said Rich Sagall, MD, president of NeedyMeds. "That's valuable marketing information that many other card companies use or sell - something we don't do. The same goes for our new smartphone app." The app is available for both the iPhone and Android phones.
NeedyMeds Alert
Remembering to take medications can be difficult. With different drugs on different schedules, it's all too easy to forget doses. NeedyMeds Alert, a free smartphone application from NeedyMeds, provides a simple solution to this problem.
"Everyone is busy these days and remembering to take medications can be tough," said Sagall. "Now anyone with a smartphone can receive reminders."
NeedyMeds Alert lets users enter all of their medicines, doses, and times they should be taken. Then, just like clockwork, a pop-up reminder appears when it's time to take a particular medication.
Unlike other similar apps, NeedyMeds Alert is more than just a reminder. App users can learn important facts about their medications and find out about possible low-cost generic substitutes. In addition, users may enter a list of their doctors and pharmacies for an easy reference tool.
Both the Drug Discount App and NeedyMeds Alert are available for the iPhone and Android-running smartphones.
