"Hearables" will generate a revolution in wearable devices, remote monitoring, self-empowerment and AI. Moore's Law will lower prices and improve access for older adults who delay the use of hearing aides for years, increasing the risk of isolation, dementia and falls. Laurie Orlov provides a great overview of high end, Direct to Consumer and OTC prospects in a short quick read. If you're thinking about older adult health needs, you should read. This doesn't mention the likely role that google, apple, amazon, Samsung and other tech giants are also likely playing in this field, but that would take a lot longer

For me, AI and mobile apps will enable more device adjustment and monitoring of more biometrics without a live person. Top quality may require live humans, but like everywhere else the technology will allow fewer people to work at the top of their license and/or allow a lower licensed team to support more users with assistance. This is where Moore’s Law and AI changes the status quo.

It’s truly time for this. I watched my father isolate due to lack of sophisticated hearing aids. He was profoundly challenged even with “top of the line” hearing aids. We can put men on the moon but this sector has not kept pace with technology to help millions of people.
